In Simferopol we met a unique relic — the Goden Cross
CrimeaPRESS reports:
As part of the All-Russian missionary movement, with the blessing of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’, the Goden Cross was delivered to Simferopol. The religious procession is accompanied by representatives of the Synodal Missionary Department of the Russian Orthodox Church.
On September 24, a liturgy was served in the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral of Simferopol in honor of the arrival of the relic.
The religious procession, dedicated to the 600th anniversary of the appearance of the Goden cross near Rostov the Great, takes place from September 2 to November 4 through 27 cities of Russia and Belarus: from north to south (Murmansk — Crimea) and from west to east (Brest — Vladivostok).
Along the route of the church procession, the organizers hold various cultural and educational events: meetings with famous Orthodox missionaries and cultural figures, screenings of feature films and documentaries on Orthodox themes, spiritual and educational conversations about the Russian world and traditional values.
The Godin cross is a carved, painted human-sized image of Jesus Christ, made in the Byzantine style. According to church tradition, the cross appeared to shepherds in the Sakhota swamp on June 11, 1423. This was a sign to build a temple on that place, which was soon fulfilled. It is believed that the cross was miraculously transferred from Byzantine soil to Russian soil shortly before the collapse of Orthodox Byzantium.
