International Holocaust Remembrance Day — commentary by Sergei Aksenov

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Comment by the Head of the Republic of Crimea Sergei Aksenov in connection with the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust.

January 27 is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This date coincides with the liberation of Auschwitz prisoners by Soviet troops.

Among the victims of the Holocaust are thousands of our fellow countrymen killed by the Nazis during the occupation of Crimea. The Nazi beasts and their henchmen did not spare anyone; they destroyed old people, women, children, including those from mixed families.

“The Germans looked for such children and took them to the Gestapo, to their mothers […] they were allowed to continue living, but, as a general rule, mothers followed their children, not wanting to live without them, and were executed along with their children,” an eyewitness to the events wrote in his diary.

According to our President, it was the Soviet people who saved the Jewish and other peoples from total destruction and enslavement. Unfortunately, today in the West they are trying to forget about this. Memory and truth have been sacrificed to the political situation, which is based on Russophobia, no less disgusting than anti-Semitism.

But we remember. Both about victims and liberators. And whoever forgot, let us remind yousays the commentary of the Head of Crimea.
