Is “flirting” dangerous: what does the new virus bring?
CrimeaPRESS reports:
For the fifth year in a row, COVID-19 has not allowed all of humanity to relax, introducing its own new modification for each season. Recently it became known that a new version of the “omicron” – FLiRT – crossed the Russian border. And it is named so not for its ease in “relationships” with people: it is an abbreviation for new mutations. Just the arrived strain, together with its “brothers,” has already caused a new surge in incidence.
“Flirt” will headline the summer ball
The Russian Operational Headquarters for the fight against coronavirus calculated that in the third week of May, 15% more people fell ill, and 35% more people were hospitalized than in the second. Moreover, in Moscow the number of infections has increased by one and a half times. Epidemiologists name two main reasons. The first is an increase in the number of tourist trips during the May holidays. Secondly, in most of Russia, after warm weather, cold weather came, and this could disrupt the adaptive capabilities of the body in those people who had already switched to light clothing. Such people are more vulnerable to various infections.
What is known about FLiRT? The strain has already been detected in almost 20 countries, including European ones, as well as the USA and Israel. It has just entered Russia; as of May 22, about 200 confirmed cases have been registered.
Each new type of “omicron” is even more infectious than the previous ones. Therefore, experts in many countries around the world expect that “flirting” will lead the summer Covid surge. So far, the new strain is relatively easy to tolerate. But experts consider it still very “young” and unexplored, so they do not rule out unpleasant surprises in the future. In any case, according to virologists, the spread of “flirting” will depend on what kind of antiviral measures Russians will take.
Protection from virus troubles
The symptoms of FLiRT are in many ways similar to the manifestations of intestinal infectious diseases, reported Anna Popova, head of Rospotrebnadzor. That is, if such symptoms appear, you need to consult a doctor to get an accurate diagnosis and proper treatment. It often takes a lot of time to make an accurate diagnosis. Doctors try not to waste precious hours and immediately prescribe antiviral drugs with a wide spectrum of action. Such means “hit” exactly the target – the virus. Arbidol, in particular, is such a “universal soldier”. It is known to foreign scientists and patients, including as umifenovir (the active ingredient of the drug). Many studies by leading foreign scientists have repeatedly proven Arbidol’s ability to resist viruses such as influenza (A and B), ARVI, COVID-19 and even rotavirus, the publication notes «TVNZ». Umifenovir suppresses viruses, preventing them from entering human cells and multiplying. Therefore, it is easier for the body to cope with the “infection”, the disease passes faster, and complications do not have time to develop.
