It's a matter of nuances: returning furniture under the Consumer Rights Protection Law if it is of inadequate quality

CrimeaPRESS reports:

In Russia, the Law on the Protection of Consumer Rights is an important regulatory act regulating the rights and responsibilities of consumers when purchasing goods. Of course, possible “inconsistencies” in the relationship between buyers and sellers of something (be it goods or services) are also discussed. Moreover, it contains answers on how to act in almost all situations. Including return of furniture according to the law of inadequate quality. At the same time, the document is quite difficult to understand when it comes to its use by buyers who do not understand the legal intricacies. Therefore, most often the best way out when it is necessary to resolve controversial issues is qualified help. There are many nuances, despite the fact that taking most of them into account will determine in whose favor the dispute will be resolved.

As for the key points that are definitely worth keeping in mind when returning furniture of inadequate quality in accordance with Russian legislation:

  • return deadlines: In accordance with the Consumer Protection Law, you have the right to return furniture of defective quality within 15 days from the date of purchase, unless otherwise specified in the contract with the seller.
  • preservation of presentation: You must maintain the furniture’s salable condition if you wish to exercise the right of return. This means that the furniture must be in good condition and free from signs of use or damage, unless such damage is the result of defects specified at the time of purchase.
  • documentation: Keep all documents related to the purchase of furniture, such as a receipt, warranty card, contract and others. These documents may be required to confirm your purchase and warranty terms.
  • contacting the seller: First of all, contact the seller, notify him of the problem and demand a return or replacement of the furniture. The seller is obliged to consider your complaint and provide a response within 10 days.
  • contacting consumer protection authorities: If the seller refuses to satisfy your complaint, you can contact the consumer protection authorities (Rospotrebnadzor, etc.). They can conduct an inspection and help resolve the dispute between you and the seller.
  • judicial path: If all other measures have not led to a solution to the problem, you can go to court to protect your rights as a consumer.
