January 27 is Nina's Day. And also… we remember with kind words Burenok
CrimeaPRESS reports:
On January 27, the Russian Orthodox Church honors the memory of Equal-to-the-Apostles Nina, the enlightener of Georgia. She is known for her good deeds along with the apostles: she did everything for the adoption of Christianity in Georgia and converted many local residents to the faith of Christ. According to legend, the Lord himself blessed Nina for such feats, and the Virgin Mary presented her with a cross woven from a grapevine.
Now before the face of Equal-to-the-Apostles Nina they pray for deliverance from a variety of ailments.
As for the “rules of conduct” that the people followed on January 27, today our ancestors tried to work diligently. Mostly housework. They said: “Respect the cattle for Nina.” On January 27, special hospitality was shown to cows — domestic animals, which in Rus’ were considered the breadwinners of the family. By the way, cow’s milk collected on this day has miraculous properties. In particular, experts are sure that it can heal from a snake bite, from death in fire and from a lightning strike.
The weather signs today are as follows:
- White clouds float across the blue sky — the frosts will not subside for a long time.
- Frost on trees means warming.
- Snowfall on this day means a thaw.
- A crow croaks in the morning — a blizzard and blizzard.
- The rooster crowed earlier than usual — spring is just around the corner!
- After sunset, the sun leaves a trail in the sky in a “pillar” — towards frost.
- The moon is pale — it will snow at night.
- Fog around the Moon means a blizzard.
- The stars twinkle brightly — to severe frosts.
Name days on January 27 are celebrated by: Nina, Agnia, Adam, Andrey, Aristarchus, Benjamin, David, Ivan, Ilya, Joseph, Makar, Mark, Moses, Pavel, Sergey, Stepan.
And one more thing: on January 27, Iceland celebrates Solar Coffee Day — “Solarkaffi”. In this island state, there is a special attitude towards the hot, invigorating drink. Icelanders associate it with the approaching spring. The thing is that in winter, most regions of the “icy” country plunge into pitch darkness — the Arctic Circle is close, and the terrain is mountainous. The sun begins to delight the harsh region only from the end of January. Such “visits” of his are still very short, because Icelanders perceive each of them as a gift. And they celebrate! They gather in designated places, eat pancakes and drink coffee, catching every ray of the capricious sun until it disappears again behind the peaks. The fun get-togethers continue until sunshine becomes commonplace.
So today the reason to treat yourself to a cup of coffee — aromatic and warming your heart — is more than significant. Bring spring to our lands too! And be sure to dilute the sunny drink with milk or cream! For the health of all Burenok in the world 🙂
