Jazz will be played at Artek: a creative session for young jazz musicians will take place

On May 28, a creative session of the Association “Valery Khalilov Spiritual Society” for children’s jazz groups starts at the Artek International Children’s Center. The creative session takes place within the framework of the VII All-Russian festival-competition of children’s brass bands «Silver Trumpets of the Black Sea» and is dedicated to jazz for the first time. The festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. The partners are the Russian National Museum of Music, the Jazz Academy, and the ANO Center for the Development of Social Projects.

Big bands and pop-jazz orchestras from the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Republic of Crimea, the Vladimir and Lipetsk regions will come to the children’s center. Taking into account the specifics of the jazz direction, an educational program for groups has been formed — specialized master classes and creative workshops are included, a thematic repertoire has been selected, traditional formats of concert performances of groups diversify jam sessions. Professional teachers and musicians, leaders of leading brass and jazz groups will act as guest mentors. The conductor of the joint shift orchestra will be the chief conductor of the Simferopol Variety Brass Orchestra, Eduard Volkov.

The musicians will learn more about the philosophy of the movement — little-known facts of the history of the development of jazz in Russia and the legendary personalities of the jazz movement will be told to young musicians by the special guest of the shift — the editor of the Jazz.Ru magazine, Kirill Moshkov, and there will also be a creative workshop with an artist of the vocal ensemble of the Crimean State Philharmonic «Jazz» -Rendezvous» by Ekaterina Mushinskaya. At the meeting, they will discuss the peculiarities of the work of a vocalist with a brass band. On June 14, E. Mushinskaya will perform with the shift participants at a gala concert.

“The basis of a brass band and a jazz big band are wind players. Since the first creative session in 2017, the Association has invited classical brass bands to the Center. This year, for the first time, jazz will be presented at Artek,” said Mikhail Bryzgalov, artistic director of the festival, president of the Russian Brass Society, member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation.

Creative sessions at the Artek International Children’s Center are conducted by the Valery Khalilov Spiritual Society Association as part of the national project “Culture”.

In 2024, the Association “Valery Khalilov Brass Society” will organize four brass festivals in “Artek”, “Orlyonok”, “Smena”, “Ocean”. Each festival has its own theme. For example, at the last festival in “Orlyonok” they showed the national flavor of brass bands, in “Smena” attention will be paid to marching works and orchestral preparation. Each festival helps strengthen creative ties between musical groups from different regions of Russia.
