13 In July, Orthodox Christians celebrate one of the most important dates — the Day of the Baptism of Russia — or the Day of Remembrance of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir, who baptized Russia.
This event was a turning point in the history of our state and had a great influence on its development. On the Day of the Baptism of Russia, various thematic events will be held on the territory of the museum-reserve: master classes, quests, excursions and performances by folklore groups. We are waiting for everyone! — they say in the press service of the museum-reserve «Tauric Chersonesos».
Tauric Chersonesus (Byzantine Kherson, Korsun of Russian Chronicles) is directly related to the events 988 of the year. After all, it was in this city, according to The Tale of Bygone Years, that Grand Duke Vladimir was baptized and married the Byzantine princess Anna, the purple-born sister of Emperors Basil II and Constantine VIII. In the future, Christianity determined the vector of development of our entire country, which adopted the main spiritual values of Byzantium.
Schedule of events dedicated to the Day of the Baptism of Russia in Chersonese:
- 28 July, at the end of the morning service at St. Vladimir Cathedral of Tauric Chersonese, visitors to the museum-reserve will be able to join the festive program dedicated to the Day of the Baptism of Russia. From to 10: near the monument to Andrew the First-Called, a thematic program «The Tale of the Russian Land» will be held, which will allow everyone to touch the origins domestic culture. It will be attended by soloists of the Volga Guslars ensemble. The ancient melodies of Russian folk instruments will take listeners back to the time of epics and introduce everyone to the exploits described in them. -classes that will make you feel like the inhabitants of that era. Visitors will be able to try their hand at minting coins and making glass beads, and a special surprise will be a master class in performing epics to the accompaniment of the harp.
