June 7 — Midsummer Day. Dew now honey
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The people noticed that from June 7 — due to a sharp temperature drop — the so-called honey (honey, sweet) dews begin. What is this phenomenon? Our ancestors designated it this way: aphids and worms, pulling juice from plants, leave their sweet traces on them, which are harmful to plants, cattle, and children. They said: «Honey dew knows rust, spreads sweetly and eats away painfully». However, the peasants were only partially right: the sweet liquid itself is safe for plants and animals. Harm is carried by insects, which it attracts. It is they who carry diseases that are dangerous to flora and fauna. So, as a result of «honey dew», a honeydew appears.
They asked, in particular, for help in the fight against sweet dew from St. John the Baptist (John the Baptist), whose memory the church honors on June 7. On this day, the third finding of the head of John is remembered. The saint, we recall, predicted the coming of the Savior, and later baptized Jesus Christ in the waters of the Jordan.
Signs for June 7 are as follows:
- A lot of bear dew today — to a rich harvest.
- Abundant dew in the morning — to a sunny and warm day. If there is no dew on June 7, then … most likely … it will rain.
- Many flowers on the mountain ash — there will be a good harvest of oats.
- Rowan bloomed late? Autumn will be long.
- The earth is damp by this time — a sign that there will be a good harvest of bread, and vice versa.
