KFU scientists believe that in the summer in the Crimea it is necessary to conduct constant monitoring in order to prevent an outbreak of cholera
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Crimea is a territory where a large influx of people from various regions of the world is always recorded during the holiday season, so constant monitoring is necessary to prevent the occurrence of a cholera epidemic. The epidemic of this disease, which began in 1964 year, has not yet ended, and outbreaks are recorded all over the world every year.
Cholera is an acute intestinal infection. The main route of spread is through water, into which Vibrio cholerae enter with the secretions of a sick person (during defecation or vomiting). From reservoirs, the pathogen can enter the human body by swallowing water during bathing, through dishes, vegetables and fruits. When a certain amount enters the patient’s body, clinical symptoms of the disease appear, which usually appear on the first or fifth day. Vibrio cholerae has adapted to life in salt water. For example, such a strain as el-tor can be in the external environment for up to one year , — the press service of the professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Crimean Federal University Muniver Gafarova quotes.
According to her, the main symptoms of a dangerous acute intestinal infection of bacterial origin are nausea, vomiting, loose stools, headache, dizziness. As a result, a large loss of fluid becomes dangerous for the life of the sick person, so you should immediately seek help from a doctor.
According to the recommendations of the Ministry of Health, when contacting medical workers of any medical institution, patients with dysfunction of the gastrointestinal tract are examined annually from May 1 to October 1 for the presence of cholera vibrio. Treatment of such patients is carried out in an infectious diseases hospital. Most patients can be successfully treated with oral rehydration salt solutions. But patients with severe dehydration are at risk of dehydration shock, so they need urgent intravenous injections , notes Muniver Gafarova.
In order not to get sick, the specialist recommends personal hygiene, washing hands more often, as well as food. Muniver Gafarova also emphasized that with the resumption of the supply of Dnieper water, the cholera epidemic does not threaten Crimea, since the water is intended only for technical use, and for drinking on the peninsula there are other points of intake, which are regularly monitored by the competent authorities.
According to the Center for Hygienic Education of the Population of Rospotrebnadzor, cholera epidemics have not been registered in Russia since 1985 year, however, over the last years, single imported cases have been observed almost annually.
