#LisaAlert Crimea warns: summer is a great time, but only if you follow safety rules

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The summer, forest, berry-mushroom, walking and hiking season has begun, and this is wonderful, but only if you know the safety rules well. Otherwise… Going to the forest, no one plans to get lost. Moreover, people who were searched and found by volunteers of the search and rescue squad #LisaAlerttoo, were sure that nothing would happen to them.

  • “Yes, where is there to be lost ?!”
  • “I know this forest since childhood!”
  • “No one has ever been lost here!”
  • “I’m for half an hour, along the path, without going deep!”
  • “I didn’t take the phone so as not to lose it!”

These are the most common phrases that volunteers hear when leading a person out of the forest.

It is the deceptive feeling of safety of a walk, with which people usually go into the forest, that often causes trouble. No matter how familiar the forest is, something can always go wrong. You can twist your leg or not recognize a familiar forest after natural disasters, you may be bitten by a snake, the weather may deteriorate sharply, or perhaps, for some reason, you will have to linger in the forest until dark or take a long and more difficult path. These are common situations, they can happen to anyone! — noted in the squad #LisaAlert.

It should always be remembered that the forest is not just a dangerous environment, but hostile to humans. When going on a hike, for a walk, for mushrooms and berries, you need to consider several important recommendations:

— always inform your loved ones about which forest you are going to, where you are going to go into it and when you plan to return. If you can’t tell in person, leave a note or send a message to your phone. If you are going on a hike, be sure to register your route on the website of the Ministry of Emergency Situations or call the unified dispatch service in your region.

— dress brightly! It is very difficult to quickly find a person in camouflage or dark clothes in the forest, especially if he can no longer answer. If it’s a pity to wear casual clothes in the forest, just throw a regular signal vest over your jacket. They are sold in stores, at gas stations, are part of the car first-aid kit. They are inexpensive, weigh little, but will greatly help you become more noticeable, especially in the dark.

Always take with you to the forest:

– fully charged phone! Even if your operator’s network is out of reach, you can make an emergency call — call 112 and tell you that you need help. As a rule, such a call can be made even in the absence of a network;

— compass! But for it to be useful to you, you need to learn how to use it, it’s not difficult. Master it yourself and help your loved ones master it, especially children and the elderly;

— matches or a lighter! And both are better, because matches can get damp, and a lighter can break;

— whistle! Whistling is easier than screaming. In addition, a sharp piercing sound, if necessary, will scare away wild animals;

— a supply of food and water! Minimum 1 liter per person and individually wrapped portioned snacks. Suitable bars, nuts, dried fruits. These foods are high-calorie, so they replenish strength well;

— Medications that you take regularly. For example, blood pressure pills, or an inhaler, or an allergy drug, or insulin, or other means that you may need if you spend more time in the forest than you intended.

DO NOT LET CHILDREN IN THE FOREST alone or with elderly relatives, or with those who suffer from chronic diseases, have memory problems, or have difficulty navigating the area. It is highly desirable that the elderly also do not go into the forest unaccompanied.

IF YOU ARE LOST — DON’T PANIC! Don’t waste your time, ask for help right away. The sooner they start looking for you, the more likely it is that everything will end without consequences.

Realizing that you are lost — STOP! Don’t try to get out on your own, this can make things worse for you.

CALL 112, report the incident and strictly follow the operator’s instructions. Take care of your battery! Don’t make unnecessary calls, keep your phone as warm and dry as possible. Ask relatives not to call you.
You will be contacted by experienced specialists who know how to act competently in such situations, it is very important that your phone is not busy and is not discharged at the most crucial moment.

BUILD the fire. This will help keep you warm and mark your location.

RESPONSE with noise to any noise. Shout, whistle, knock — indicate your location in any way possible.

Remember, it’s important to ask for help right away! Tell your family about this!

If you have lost a loved one, contact the police and the hotline of the search and rescue team «LizaAlert» at the number

8(800)700-54-52

Report the loss immediately, there is no “rule of three days”, and the sooner the search begins, the sooner your loved one will be home again!

Take care of yourself and your loved ones.
