Ministry of Health of Crimea: vaccination against COVID-19 of elderly citizens is a chance to save lives

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Vaccination against a new coronavirus infection of older citizens in many cases becomes a chance for saving lives. According to Vladimir Meshcheryakov, chief freelance specialist in medical prevention at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Crimea, statistics show that the risk of death from COVID-19 in unvaccinated citizens is older 60 years is significantly higher than that of citizens younger than this age. With age, the likelihood of developing such dangerous complications as viral pneumonia and thrombosis of various localizations, which often lead to death, increases. That is why the medical community considers older people to be at particular risk and calls for immunization.

As Vladimir Meshcheryakov notes, in old age there are often comorbidities, such as sore joints, diabetes or cardiovascular disease, which is an additional argument in favor of immunization. The vaccination is carried out in a stable condition, not during an exacerbation of the disease, after consultation with the attending physician. If the patient receives any therapy for a long time, then before vaccination, you should contact your doctor so that, if necessary, the specialist adjusts the doses of the drugs taken. However, as a rule, the drug regimen does not change.

The chief freelance specialist in medical prevention emphasizes that the disappointing statistics of coronavirus deaths among the elderly who have not been immunized clearly indicate that older people should not be skeptical about the need for immunization. To date, in the Crimea against COVID-03 fully vaccinated 15 493 people older than 60 years. You can get immunized at stationary or mobile points, information about which is available on the website of the Ministry of Health of Crimea.
