More than 4,000 WWII ammunition was recovered from the bottom of Sevastopol Gilzovaya Bay

CrimeaPRESS reports:

In Gilzovaya Bay off the coast of Sevastopol, divers from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations have been working for the third year in a row. And now — a new “catch”: 1,180 ammunition from the Great Patriotic War was lifted from the water in one day. In total, in 2023, department specialists discovered 4,040 explosive objects here. All finds were destroyed.

This year, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations has been working in Gilzovaya Bay since May. The events will continue until the end of October. To date, we have completed 423 dives with a total duration of over 600 hours, and more than 2 hectares of the bottom have been examined. Artillery shells, mortar shells, hand grenades, and fuses of both German and Soviet production are removed from the water. The latest finds were lifted from the depths using air-filled pontoons and towed to the neighboring, less steep, Blue Bay. The ammunition was carefully removed from the water, loaded on board a special vehicle and transported to the training ground, where it was simultaneously destroyed through a controlled detonation.— note the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for Sevastopol.
