Yuri Borisov — career

Yuri Borisov was born on December 8, 1992 in the town of Reutov near Moscow. Little is known about his parents and family, and although they had nothing to do with art, Yuri showed an interest in artistic activities from childhood and often participated in school theater productions.

Initially, the young man did not think about a career as an actor. His parents did not insist on choosing a specific profession, but were determined that they could not pay for his education if he did not enter the budget department. After graduating from school, Yuri decided to try his hand at acting and applied to theater universities. Surprisingly, on the first try he was accepted into the acting department of the Shchepkinsky School, despite enormous competition and the lack of preliminary acting training.

Although Yuri had to overcome some difficulties during his training related to the peculiarities of theatrical work, for example, in order to speak louder on stage than in ordinary life, he successfully coped with this. He shared that he often had to come up with excuses to raise his voice on stage. After graduating from college in 2013, Yuri began working at the Satyricon Theater, where within a year he even won the Golden Leaf theater award for his role in the production of Zoykina’s Apartment.

The creative activity of Yuri Borisov brought him the greatest success in cinema. While still in his first year at a theater university, he began attending castings, and his debut was an episodic role in Andrei Zvyagintsev’s drama “Elena” (2010). This experience became for him a kind of introduction to the world of big cinema. In subsequent years, starting in 2011, Borisov actively participated in the filming of dramatic films such as “Atonement”, “Fights”, “Laughter and Sin”.

In 2011, he received his first leading role in the series based on the story by Eduard Volodarsky “Everyone Has His Own War,” where he played the schoolboy Robert in love. In subsequent projects, such as the crime drama At Risk (2012) and the TV series Moths (2013), he demonstrated his versatility by playing different roles.

In 2015, the film “Shot” was released, where Borisov played biathlete Pasha Krutov. The same year was full of premieres of two more projects — the film “Road to Berlin” and the series “Young Guard”, where Yuri played the roles of Lieutenant Sergei Ogarkov and one of the founders of the Young Guard headquarters, Sergei Tyulenin, respectively.

The actor also played the main characters in many military projects, such as the series “Father’s Shore” (2017), the film “Seven Evil Couples” (2018) and the action film “T-34” (2018). In the latter, he embodied the image of Seraphim Ionov loading a tank, which he created together with director Alexei Sidorov. He recalled the shooting like this: “Every morning I stuffed cotton wool into my nose. As a result, you can only breathe through your mouth, and that’s why you get this voice.”

Yuri Borisov demonstrated a special approach to preparing for his role in the comedy “Crystal” (2018), where he played the role of DJ Alik, who is addicted to drugs. To create this image, the actor pierced his nostril and used drops to dilate the pupils, which impressed director Daria Zhuk.

However, the real breakthrough in his career was his role in the crime drama “Bull” (2019), where he played the leader of the criminal group Anton Bykov. This film was awarded the main prize at Kinotavr. Borisov did not call him the most correct, but noted his energy and youth.

After the success of «Bull», he began to be offered roles in box-office films. In “Union of Salvation” (2019), he played the role of a Decembrist, and in “Invasion” — a captain, for which he communicated with special forces officers. However, he sought to maintain a balance between the underground and the mainstream.

One of the high-profile films starring Borisov was the biography film “Kalashnikov” (2020). The actor was nominated for the Golden Eagle Award for this role. Another significant role is in the historical drama “Silver Skates” (2020).

Several films with his participation were released in 2021, including the Finnish director’s drama “Coupe Number Six.” Borisov has received offers from foreign studios, but believes that he can only play Russian characters.

Yuri Borisov — personal life

Yuri Borisov is married and has two beautiful daughters. He met his future wife, Anna Shevchuk, in the first year of the Shchepkinsky School, when he was 18 years old and she was 16. The beginning of their relationship was not easy, since Anna perceived Yuri as not serious. She recalled that Yuri tried to impress her with various antics, such as climbing trees or wearing a school visor.

However, they got to know each other better in their fourth year during rehearsals for the production of “Zoyka’s Apartment,” when their constant arguments turned into deep feelings. The wedding took place in 2014. Immediately after this, they had their first daughter, Marfa, and after her, Akulina. The birth of girls became a real test for Yuri, but he admitted that it was his wife and children who helped him find the consistency that he lacked in the life of an actor.

Yuri Borisov — and there will be more…
