Sevastopol celebrated the Day of the Liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi Siege

CrimeaPRESS reports:

On January 27, events were held in Sevastopol dedicated to the Day of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade. Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev, together with deputies of the Legislative Assembly, leadership of federal and law enforcement agencies, members of public organizations and religious denominations, laid flowers at the Memorial Wall in memory of the heroic defense of the city of Sevastopol in 1941–1942 and at the Leningrad Stele on the Walk of Fame of Hero Cities.

At the Public Support Headquarters, the governor presented the veterans with badges of honor dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade. The awards were issued for this significant date by the Government of St. Petersburg.

Many events are taking place throughout the country to mark the Day of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade. There are especially many of them, of course, in St. Petersburg — our President is there today, and our Sevastopol blockade survivors are also in the northern capital today. And we are here in Sevastopol, and today it is with great pleasure that I present you with commemorative medals. The memory of the blockade is very dear to all of us. And today it is very important that even the youngest residents of Sevastopol know everything about this terrible period, about what our country suffered — and understand that this can never be allowed to happen again. Therefore, thank you for passing on this memory, this story to younger generations.,” the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes Mikhail Razvozhaev.

The siege of Leningrad began on September 8, 1941 and lasted 872 days until January 27, 1944. The Battle for the City is considered the longest battle of the Great Patriotic War. The day of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade is the Day of Military Glory of Russia.
