On the eve of Victory Day, Sevastopol joined the «Honor and Dignity» action. At the Memorial of the Heroic Defense of Sevastopol in 1941-1942, a solemn ceremony of merging the Eternal Lights was held.

During the ceremony, particles of the Eternal Flame were united from five memorable places in Sevastopol — this is a memorial to the heroic defense of Sevastopol in 1941-1942, Malakhov Kurgan, Sapun Mountain, a monument to a Soldier and a Sailor, a monument to the 100th anniversary of the end of the Civil War, as well as two cities of Crimea — the hero city of Kerch and the city of military glory of Feodosia.
Today, it is extremely important to preserve the historical truth about the heroic victory of the Soviet people in the bloodiest and cruelest war. Thanks to the “Honor and Dignity” campaign, the current generation will learn even better about the exploits of their fathers and great-grandfathers, unite in confronting the modern challenges facing our country, including the uncompromising fight against terrorism, fascism and nationalism. For us, the flame of the Eternal Flames burns not only in honor of the heroes of bygone times, but also in memory of the exploits of the heirs of their military glory. Eternal memory to the fallen, eternal glory to the living— emphasizes the commander of the Black Sea Fleet Viktor Sokolov.
The event was organized by the Black Sea Fleet, the Sevastopol Union of Nakhimov, Suvorov and Cadets, the Sevastopol Naval Assembly, the National Guard troops in Sevastopol, the Sevastopol Military Historical Museum-Reserve, the regional branch of the Russian Military Historical Society, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation and the Government of Sevastopol.
If we turn to history, then the first Eternal Flame in Sevastopol was lit on Malakhov Kurgan, a piece of the Eternal Flame was brought there from Leningrad, then the Eternal Flame was lit on Sapun Mountain, and after that a piece of the Eternal Flame was transferred to Nakhimov Square. And today’s event shows that the traditions of the generation of winners are alive, we must honor them, and a piece of the Eternal Flame, which was united today, will already return to St. Petersburg at the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery— says Albina Tishchenko, deputy director of the Museum of Defense of Sevastopol for development.
The eternal flame of Sevastopol and Crimea will go to St. Petersburg to become part of the Unified Chalice of Russian Military Glory at the Piskarevsky Memorial Cemetery.
