Sevastopol police warns: scammers on the Internet do not sleep, they want money
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The police of Sevastopol note: among the majority of modern people, the most convenient way to make purchases is the purchase of goods via the Internet. However, not all online sellers act in good faith, in connection with which the police of Sevastopol periodically register cases of remote fraud.
Recently, a 37-year-old local resident turned to the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Leninsky District. The woman told law enforcement officers that three days earlier she had found a private ad on one of the sites with an offer to buy flowers in bulk. Having agreed with the terms of the contract of the alleged counterparty, the victim transferred funds in the amount of more than thousand rubles as an advance payment, but she never received the ordered goods. The victim knew about the existence of this fraudulent scheme, but relying on the good faith of a stranger, she became a victim of a crime , — said the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sevastopol.
The employees of the internal affairs bodies initiated a criminal case on this fact and are taking all necessary measures aimed at identifying the offender.
In order to avoid such crimes, the Sevastopol police urges to take appropriate precautions:
- We recommend making online purchases in those online stores that operate for a long period time and enjoy a good business reputation. Before ordering a product, look at reviews about it, use the recommendations of your relatives and friends who have previously made purchases there. Since some scammers indicate the name of their online store as similar to well-known brands, you should carefully read the name of the online store before buying.
- When shopping online, service, you must use the secure transaction system. In addition, it is recommended to meet with the seller in person before transferring the prepayment. In the absence of such an opportunity, ask the seller to tell as much information about the item being sold, to show its video from all angles. Given that remote scammers most often post a non-existent mobile phone number in several private ads at once, you should contact the seller before buying. If the subscriber is outside the network coverage area for a long time, then this should arouse suspicion. The sale of expensive property at a low price, as well as the requirement to make an advance payment for a large amount, should also alert you. If possible, agree to pay for the purchase after the goods have been delivered to you, when you can be sure of their proper quality and quantity.102
If you have suffered from fraud, you must immediately contact the nearest territorial division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia or report it by phone 102.
