Sevastopol residents have given more than 3 million rubles to scammers over the past few days

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Sevastopol police remind citizens to take precautions when receiving calls about problems with a bank account or about relatives involved in an accident!

Over the past few days, eight city residents have suffered from such illegal actions, losing a total of 3.4 million rubles. In six cases, victims aged 19 to 65 years old received calls via messenger from scammers who introduced themselves as bank employees, credit specialists or law enforcement officers and reported that they were trying to steal money from them, as well as issue loans in their name. Having instilled fear of losing their savings, the criminals convinced Sevastopol residents to transfer all their money to accounts controlled by the scammers. In two more cases, elderly women aged 73 and 88 were deceived by scammers using the scheme “Your relative caused an accident.” The pensioners received calls from strangers, introduced themselves as law enforcement officers and reported that their loved ones were responsible for a road accident. Allegedly to be exempt from criminal liability, the criminals convinced them to hand over large sums to the arriving courier.,” noted the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sevastopol.

Sevastopol police urge citizens to be careful and prudent! Remember and tell your loved ones, relatives, neighbors: real bank employees and law enforcement officers never call to report any problems with your bank account. Saving your money is simple — never follow anyone’s instructions over the phone, stop talking if the safety of your money is at stake and report a suspicious call to the police by calling 102.

Dear city residents! Your elderly relatives become victims of the “Your relative has an accident” scheme. Explain to them that scammers probably know some information about them: name, patronymic, age, family composition. It is this information that they use to convince them that something bad has happened to their loved ones. Warn your relatives that calls demanding to hand over money to the courier as a bribe to be released from criminal liability or to compensate for damages come only from scammers.
