Sevastopol residents planted a geoglyph on the anniversary of the Russian Spring — “Garden of Memory”
CrimeaPRESS reports:
On March 18, the international event “Garden of Memory” took place in Sevastopol, during which city residents planted a geoglyph in the form of the name of their hometown. The green inscription “Sevastopol” consists of almost 3,000 oriental thujas.
The event is dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the Russian Spring and the upcoming 80th anniversary of the liberation of the city from the Nazi invaderssaid Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev during the event.
At the grand opening of the event, the head of the city read a congratulatory telegram from Russian President Vladimir Putin to the participants. The governor noted that the new geoglyph will become a reminder for all Sevastopol residents, for future generations.
We always hold the “Garden of Memory” event on March 18, a historical day, the anniversary of the Russian Spring. This year has special symbolism, after all, we have the first ten-year anniversary, the first big anniversary, so we decided that there should be something significant, something that will remain in memory and remain simply for posterity, for future generations, as a reminder of this joyful moment. We decided that next to the geoglyph “Russia”, which we planted on November 4 last year on National Unity Day, we will plant the word “Sevastopol”. Thus, we will have two words next to each other: “Russia”, “Sevastopol”, and in 10-15 years this inscription will be visible from space. This is a very good, very symbolic action, which in the future will remind us of how we celebrated the first ten-year anniversary,” the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes Mikhail Razvozhaev.
The planting of living monuments on the day of the tenth anniversary of the reunification of Crimea with Russia will be the first in a series of historical dates that we will celebrate as part of the action. The gardens will appear in honor of the 80th anniversary of the events that took place in 1944. Therefore, as part of this year’s event, volunteers will celebrate memorable dates in Russian history, and will also open a new vector for the development of the project. In particular, a large program is being prepared to plant memorial trees with the families of SVO participants and soldiers to perpetuate the feat of our soldiers and officerssays Elmurod Rasulmukhamedov.
The main goal of the ecological and patriotic action “Garden of Memory” is to plant 27 million trees in memory of everyone who died during the Great Patriotic War. It is also intended to preserve and restore the country’s forest fund. During the event, volunteers from more than 50 countries of the world took part in it.
