SevSU is working on strengthening armored helmets for the Russian military
KrymPRESS informs:
The Scientific and Educational Center «Perspective Technologies and Materials» of Sevastopol State University is developing technologies to improve the quality of the outer shell of a military armored helmet using nanopowders based on the recycling of metal alloys.
A helmet is a shield. The better it is done, the more of our fighters will save their lives. One of the options for improving the performance properties is the creation of new materials, which is what we are doing. This is a modification of existing materials with nanoparticles. Preliminary tests have shown the promise of this direction. The helmet becomes more energy-absorbing, better holds fragments, blows and other defeats, — the press service of the university quotes the director of the center Vladimir Gavrish.
Scientists of SevGU conduct their research under an agreement with JSC TsVM «Armokom» — one of the main suppliers of armored helmets in Russia. Now work is underway to create new composites using powders that will be incorporated into the structure of the helmet.
