The damage was “removed”: in Sevastopol the punishment for fraudsters who stole money from pensioners was revised
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Today, November 28, 2023, the Sevastopol City Court, on appeal from the prosecutor’s office, changed the verdict of the trial court in a criminal case of fraud and imposed a more severe punishment on the perpetrators.
Earlier, in August 2023, the Nakhimovsky District Court of Sevastopol convicted two Volgograd residents aged 48 and 52 years. They were found guilty under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud committed by an organized group on an especially large scale). It was established that from March 2019 to September 2020, women in Sevastopol and Yevpatoriya, under the pretext of performing a magical ritual aimed at removing “damage,” stole funds totaling over 1.6 million rubles. On the street, the accused approached pensioners, inquired about their health, and then offered to perform a magical “healing ritual.” To do this, they asked the victims to temporarily transfer to them all available cash, but after the so-called ceremony they returned a dummy instead of real banknotes. Thus, they deceived 6 elderly residents of Sevastopol and the Republic of Crimea,” noted the press service of the Sevastopol prosecutor’s office.
The investigation was carried out by the investigative department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.
The state prosecutor of the Nakhimovsky district prosecutor’s office insisted on real imprisonment, but the court of first instance imposed a suspended sentence.
The prosecutor’s office did not agree with the court decision due to the leniency of the punishment and appealed it.
Having considered the appeal submission of the supervisory authority, the Sevastopol City Court sentenced the perpetrators to real imprisonment for terms of 3 years 8 months and 2 years 10 months in a general regime correctional colony.
The verdict came into force. The convicts are taken into custody in the courtroom.
