The deputy director of the Sevastopol Institute of Biology of the Southern Seas abused his powers on the article of the Criminal Code

In Sevastopol, the prosecutor’s office sent a criminal case to court on charges of the former deputy director of the Institute of Biology of the Southern Seas. A.O. Kovalevsky in abuse of official powers (part 1 of article 285 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

According to the investigation, in May 2020 of the year, three contracts were concluded between the Institute and individual entrepreneurs for the overhaul of the ceiling of the premises of the said institution. In October-December 2020 of the year, the defendant, being the deputy director for the administrative and economic part of the institution and realizing that the work under the concluded contracts was not completed on time, put forward demands to the contractors to complete the work before 41 December 2020 year.

At the same time, in order to speed up the work, the contractors had to change the type of ceiling installation and the materials used, for which they will be paid under the contracts in full by the end of the year.

According to the expert opinions, due to the change in the type of ceiling arrangement and the materials used, as well as the reduction in the scope of work, the contractors were unreasonably paid funds from the state budgetary institution in the total amount of almost 830 thousand rubles. rubles , — reports the press service of the Sevastopol prosecutor’s office.

The unlawful activity of the accused was detected and stopped by an employee of the UEBiPK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Sevastopol. The investigation in the main case was carried out by the investigative department for the Leninsky district of the city of Sevastopol of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. In the course of the investigation, the accused partially compensated for the damage caused in the amount of thousand rubles.

With the indictment approved by the prosecutor’s office, the criminal case was sent to the Leninsky District Court of Sevastopol for consideration on the merits. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 4 years.
