The International Literary Festival “The Cherry Orchard” will take place in Yalta
CrimeaPRESS reports:
For lovers of the work of Anton Chekhov, as well as poets and writers who popularize Crimea, the International Literary Festival “The Cherry Orchard” will be held in Yalta on October 20. Guests will find themselves in the musical atmosphere of a bygone era, listen to the works of the winners of a literary competition and see the planting of a new variety of Chekhov cherries.
According to Tourist portal of Crimea, the Cherry Orchard festival will once again remind everyone of the work of the master of short stories and psychological works, Anton Chekhov. The event will take place in Yalta, at the Belaya Dacha — in the last home of the writer, who moved to Crimea, hoping to be cured of tuberculosis. This year the festival is dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the play “The Cherry Orchard,” written by Chekhov on the peninsula. Anyone can attend the event, the organizers note.
The program starts at 12:00. In the museum courtyard, guests will be greeted by a brass band that will perform works from a bygone era. Those interested can view the exhibitions, which have been preserved in their original form. Then the organizers of The Cherry Orchard will sum up the results of the literary competition as part of the festival, in which modern authors writing about Crimea took part. The winners in the categories “Civil Lyrics”, “Love Lyrics”, “Works for Children” and “Short Prose” will read their poems, stories and receive diplomas. The jury will award a particularly outstanding work with a Grand Prix — a cherry tree figurine made of semi-precious stones.
The program includes a concert by artists of the Crimean State Philharmonic and planting in the garden of the house-museum a cherry seedling of a new variety, “Chekhovskaya,” which was bred at the All-Russian Research Institute of Horticulture named after. Michurin specially for the 120th anniversary of Anton Chekhov’s play “The Cherry Orchard”.
The organizers of the festival are the Writers’ Union of Russia, the Union of Russian Writers, the Writers’ House of Crimea, and the Yalta Literary Society named after Chekhov.
Address of the house-museum: Yalta, st. Kirova, 112.
