Director General of Roscosmos Yury Borisov informedthat the strategic missile system «Sarmat» took up combat duty.
The strategic complex «Sarmat» was put on combat duty— said the head of the state corporation during the marathon «Share your knowledge».
Previously, it was assumed that the first Sarmat would be on combat duty at the end of 2022 — Vladimir Putin spoke about this at a meeting with graduates of higher military institutions. In February 2023, the Head of State announced that the complex “with a new heavy missile” would soon be ready for use.
Sarmat is a strategic missile system with a heavy-class liquid-propellant intercontinental ballistic missile, the weight of one such missile exceeds 200 tons. The complex is designed to replace the Voyevoda missiles in the Strategic Missile Forces. «Sarmat» is capable of hitting targets at long ranges, using various flight paths. The missile has unique characteristics that allow it to reliably overcome any existing and future missile defense systems.
