The State Duma of the Russian Federation proposed to carry out a «garage renovation»

Old garages were offered to be demolished, and their owners to pay compensation or provide a ready-made parking place in their area, reports RIA News. This initiative was made by State Duma deputy from the Communist Party Sergei Gavrilov. In his opinion, the country needs a “garage renovation”.

The fight against old non-permanent garages built 30, 40 years ago has been going on since the early 2000s, Gavrilov noted. They want to release the territories for the construction of housing and commercial facilities, for the improvement of public spaces, and the creation of infrastructure. In Moscow, the prefecture of a specific administrative district is the authorized body for the release of sites from non-capital facilities. Courts most often do not recognize demolished garages as capital buildings.

The MP proposed to carry out a «garage renovation». Instead of the demolished garage, people will be provided with parking spaces. This approach will allow not only to pay compensation to the owner of the garage, but to offer a turnkey solution for car storage. The car owner does not have to look for a garage cooperative or a land plot for building a garage in his area. This will protect the interests of the owners of garages. It is assumed that people will have a choice — to receive a parking space or monetary compensation.
