There is an ancient road in Crimea — a fact confirmed by the construction of the Tavrida federal highway
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The Tavrida route passed through the places where there used to be an ancient road. This is especially noticeable in the central part of Crimea between the village of Lgovskoye and the city of Belogorsk in the area of Mount Ak-Kaya. She definitely passed there, because many archeological monuments were discovered on both sides of the ancient routeshe said.
A researcher of the late Scythian culture of Crimea noted that the ancient road itself was not preserved, since a lot of time had passed and it was unpaved. Archaeologists determine its length and direction by the ruins of estates, fortresses, settlements and burial mounds. Of the ancient road infrastructure, only a small section of a paved road and a single-arch bridge were discovered, which, most likely, was built for the journey of Empress Catherine II to the peninsula at the end of the 18th century.
Large-scale excavations in Crimea began after the decision to build the Tavrida highway. Archaeologists received a unique opportunity to conduct large-scale research in different regions of Crimea, following the route of the future route ahead of its builders. The excavations, which began in the spring of 2017, were the largest in the archaeological history of Crimea: scientists examined an almost 300-km section of the future route crossing the peninsula from east to west.
Currently, on the territory of the republic there are 2,280 identified objects of archaeological heritage and 30 objects of archaeological heritage of federal significance.
