However, Crimea and Sevastopol lost more than they gained.
The tourist flow in Russia in the summer of 2023 increased by 12% compared to the same period last year — up to 17 million trips. This was announced during a press conference in TASS President of the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT) Ilya Umansky.
The increase in the number of trips in domestic tourism amounted to 12%. Russian citizens made 17 million trips (with hotel accommodation) over the three months of the summer compared to just over 15 million last year— he said.
The rating of the most popular tourist regions traditionally topped the Krasnodar Territory, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tatarstan, Moscow, Sverdlovsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Yaroslavl, Rostov and Novosibirsk regions.
At the same time, the Irkutsk Region, Krasnoyarsk Territory, Murmansk and Orenburg Regions, Khabarovsk Territory, Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, Saratov, Tyumen and Vologda Regions showed the maximum increase in tourist flow.
The rating with a minimal increase in the number of trips is headed by Sevastopol, which lost 28%, as well as Crimea — 22%. This is followed by the Novgorod and Belgorod regions, the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic and others, the expert said.
