Warn — do not warn, and another resident of Sevastopol gave millions to scammers
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Another resident of Sevastopol became a victim of scammers who presented themselves as security officers of a regional commercial bank.
It was preliminary established that in March of this year, a 60-year-old woman received a call from unknown people who introduced themselves as security officers of a regional commercial bank and said that fraudsters were trying to get loans in her name, so it was necessary to get ahead of them, apply for a loan and transfer money to reserve accounts. For persuasiveness, the callers sent the pensioner a photo of a fake ID of a bank employee. Later, other accomplices of the scammers called her, introduced themselves as law enforcement and investigative officials, convinced her to follow all the instructions received and keep communication with them secret. Following the instructions of the swindlers, over the course of several weeks, the victim issued loans in two banks for a total of 4 million rubles and transferred them to settlement accounts dictated by the attackers. When the victim realized that she had become a victim of remote criminals, she contacted the police— announced the details of the story in the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sevastopol.
On this fact, a criminal case was initiated under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation «Fraud», measures are being taken to identify and detain persons involved in the crime.
The police of Sevastopol once again reminds citizens: law enforcement officers or bank employees never call customers to warn them about problems with a bank account, never convince them to transfer money to any settlement accounts, and even more so to issue loans for this. Only scammers do this!
Dear citizens, keep in mind that attackers have some knowledge of banking and law enforcement terminology, can provide photos of supposedly their official IDs, which are actually fake, and are also aware of the personal data of their potential victims.
When you receive such calls, the only right decision is to stop talking and report the incident to the police at number 102. This is the only way you will save your money!
