We have not forgotten: in Sevastopol, the memory of prisoners of fascist concentration camps was honored
CrimeaPRESS reports:
April 11 is International Day for the Liberation of Prisoners of Nazi Concentration Camps. The date was established in memory of the international uprising of prisoners of the Buchenwald concentration camp in 1945.
The event dedicated to the anniversary of the release of prisoners was traditionally held at the Eternal Flame of the Memorial in honor of the heroes of the second defense of Sevastopol. It was attended by veterans, representatives of the Government of Sevastopol and the Legislative Assembly, political parties and public organizations of the city. The participants of the event honored the memory of the prisoners of the Nazi concentration camps who died during the Great Patriotic War with a minute of silence and laid flowers at the Eternal Flame.
Also on this day, in the Catherine Hall of the House of Officers of the Black Sea Fleet, the activists of the Sevastopol branch of the Russian Union of Former Underage Prisoners of Nazi Concentration Camps were honored.
Low bow to you, dear veterans. For your feat, for everything that you have done and are doing for the development of our city, for the military-patriotic education of our youth. This is very important and valuable, because we will continue to live and build our great power. We are proud of your courage and perseverance. I wish you good health, long life, prosperity, peace and kindness— Maria Vechera, Deputy Director of the Department of Internal Policy, addressed the audience.
She presented the veterans with letters of thanks from the Governor of Sevastopol and the Department of Domestic Policy. About 25 people were awarded various awards.
To date, 135 former prisoners of fascist concentration camps live in Sevastopol.
