A diorama of the Battle of Shum was opened in the Alushta Museum of Local Lore

In the Alushta Museum of Local History, which is a department of the Central Museum of Taurida, the grand opening of the diorama of the artist Igor Dzys «Fight near the village of Shumy on August 4 (July 24 according to the old style) 1774» took place.
During the presentation, the director of the Central Museum of Taurida, Andrey Malgin, focused on the fact that the diorama of the Battle of Shum reflects a memorable event for the history of Crimea and Russia that occurred during the reflection of the Turkish landing at the end of the Russian-Turkish war of 1768-74. Precisely because the young Lieutenant Colonel Mikhail Kutuzov, the future winner of Napoleon, took part in this battle and lost his eye, Alushta became known in world history.
Artist Igor Dzys spoke about the idea of creating a diorama and bringing the idea to life, shared the intricacies of working on the project. The diorama consists of a canvas measuring 2.14 by 4.7 meters and a foreground 1.8 m deep. Two showcases with objects found on the battlefield are inscribed in the foreground. The painting depicts the largest battle in the Alushta Valley in the history of Russian-Turkish wars.
The scale of the display of the battle is impressive, the detail in the formation of the Russian detachment, the extract from the military costume of various branches of the armed forces. In this battle, the then young lieutenant colonel Mikhail Kutuzov was wounded, in memory of which, when laying the road in 1824-1826. a memorial plaque was installed at the fountain, later named Kutuzovsky.
