A modern Center for Laboratory Diagnostics has been launched in the TB dispensary of Sevastopol
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The Center for Laboratory Diagnostics was opened in the Sevastopol TB dispensary. It is located on the sixth floor of the hospital, which was previously used as a technical one, and now is a renovated facility that meets all the requirements of infection control, safety and sanitary legislation.
In 2018, a strategic decision was made to conduct an examination of the technical floor for the possibility of placing medical units there. During 2019-2020, the development of design estimates was carried out, after receiving a positive expert opinion, repair work began, which lasted two years. And now we have a modern laboratory center with new opportunities for diagnostic studies— the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the head physician of the TB dispensary Andrei Verbitsky.
The laboratory center consists of three main blocks — these are clinical diagnostic, microbiological and PCR laboratories. They are equipped with new modern equipment.
An enzyme immunoassay analyzer was purchased for the clinical diagnostic laboratory, which makes it possible to carry out a full range of ELISA studies. Also, on the basis of the laboratory, it is now possible to conduct immunological studies, which was not previously possible, studies of the hormonal profile — thyroid hormones, which are necessary to control the treatment of patients with a severe course of the disease. Previously, this was possible only on the basis of third-party organizations.
A modern PCR station was purchased for the microbiological laboratory. All reagents used for its work are domestically produced, they are an order of magnitude better than their Western counterparts, since within a day they make it possible to determine drug resistance not to one drug, as it was before, but to three at once.
The equipment meets the highest requirements and standards. Thanks to better diagnostics, we can literally within a few hours get an answer on which treatment regimen to prescribe to the patient, previously it took much longer— notes the head physician of the medical institution.
The Center for Laboratory Diagnostics has already been launched and is ready to operate at full capacity, but its development opportunities do not end there. The purchase of equipment for a new PCR method for TB — BIOCHIP, which is based on the detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis using biological chips, is already underway. After the acquisition of this technology, the laboratory center of the Sevastopol TB Dispensary will become one of the few centers in Russia that has the widest range of PCR diagnostic methods.
