Expert opinion: Crimea will reach a record tourist flow of 18 million people in 10 years

CrimeaPRESS reports:

In 10 years, Crimea will be able to reach a record tourist flow of 18 million people, which was recorded on the peninsula during the Soviet Union. About it TASS said the chairman of the Crimean Hotel Association Sergei Makovey.

During Soviet times, our record was broken [туристического потока] — 17-18 million people. We don’t accept that many people yet. <…> I think that in 10 years we will reach this figuresaid the agency’s interlocutor.

He clarified that the tourist flow is now reduced in Crimea due to the fact that since 2022, air traffic with the peninsula remains closed and residents of regions of Russia remote from the south cannot get to resorts. In addition, he noted that a sufficient number of vacationers do not travel to Crimea in the off-season and for this it is necessary to develop the direction of health tourism.

Crimea was once an all-Union health resort, and it is now. We’re not just a beach holiday. First of all, this is health improvement, — notes Makovei.

Earlier, the head of Crimea Sergei Aksenov told TASS that 5.2 million tourists visited Crimea in 2023, which is 20% lower than the 2022 level. He noted that as long as air traffic with Crimea remains closed, there is no point in counting on the restoration of tourist flows to previous volumes.
