Hero dogs: in Yalta, a canine inspector spoke about the work and exploits of service dogs
CrimeaPRESS reports:
With the support of the Public Council operating under the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Yalta, on the eve of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Yalta, police officers held an informational meeting with primary school students of the parochial school named after the heir to Tsarevich Alexei. A “Lesson of Courage” was organized for the children, dedicated to the exploits of service dogs and their role in maintaining public order.
Using examples from the events of the Great Patriotic War, the canine inspector told the audience that over 68 thousand dogs were part of the Red Army units, taking part in fierce battles on the fronts. Together with our soldiers, they starved and froze in the trenches, threw themselves under tanks and pulled the wounded out of the battlefield. Animals, just like people, have shown resilience, courage and heroism.
The dog handler came to visit the schoolchildren along with his furry partner, the German shepherd Calypso, whose specialty is searching for explosives. The police officer explained to the children that dogs are experts at sniffing out dangerous objects. Therefore, the inspector, together with his four-legged companion, examines all the nooks and crannies of the buildings, checking for the presence of questionable objects, preventing dangerous situations— said the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.
The police showed right in the hall how the territory is patrolled and what signals the dog gives when danger is detected. At the end of the meeting, law enforcement officers urged the children not to touch foreign objects and report all findings to their parents, while the attention of young listeners was drawn to preventing communication with strangers and walking unaccompanied by adults.
The children were glad to meet the dog handler and the service dog, they took memorable photos, asked questions, and some of the schoolchildren enthusiastically shared with the police that they had decided to become dog handlers in the future.
