How to help “burnt out” doctors and others

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Professional burnout is one of the most pressing problems of our time. People cannot cope with the frantic pace of life and multitasking; they begin to experience anxiety, stress and even depression. People of different professions, including medical workers, encounter similar symptoms. Which is not surprising, since they had to bear the brunt of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic and work in very difficult conditions for a long time.

Causes of professional burnout

To help people who save lives every day in our country, the Federal Program for Assistance to Medical Workers to Prevent and Combat Professional Burnout has been launched. The Nizhny Novgorod region was chosen as a pilot region. The project was implemented by the “Vgratitude” fund for helping physicians together with the Ministry of Health of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, reports rg.ru.

According to the head of the department of psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatic pathology at the RUDN Medical Institute. Patrice Lumumba, Associate Professor, Ph.D. Vladimir Medvedevthe main cause of professional burnout is constant stress, which leads to anxiety, asthenia, and later can develop into depression.

Often, to escape problems, people try to drown out anxiety with alcohol, take a vacation, and look for various unconventional methods of treatment. However, if relief occurs, it is for a short time. Then the psycho-emotional state worsens again. A person begins to feel discomfort not only on an emotional level, but also on a physical one. He may experience itching, dizziness, headaches, drowsiness, muscle spasms, and gastrointestinal problems. “In this way, the body gives a signal that it feels bad,” explains Vladimir Medvedev.

Anti-anxiety help

How can you understand that a person really has serious problems? To get started, you can ask for help on the portal «Territory without anxiety». It contains all the background information about anxiety and the conditions associated with it. Here you can take tests and get advice from a specialist. However, most often, one consultation for a person experiencing professional burnout may not be enough. He will need not only psychological help, but also psychiatric and other medical help.

According to Vladimir Medvedev, for the most effective treatment it is necessary to use an integrated approach, including taking pharmacological drugs. Today, the market offers a wide range of anti-anxiety drugs that do not cause addiction, withdrawal syndrome, and do not negatively affect a person’s daily life. One such example is the over-the-counter Afobazol, developed by domestic specialists. Experts call the main advantage of the drug the absence of side effects that negatively affect the patient’s daily rhythm. It does not cause drowsiness, muscle weakness, does not reduce attention and ability to concentrate, and is not addictive. Afobazole also helps get rid of symptoms such as fearfulness, tearfulness, anxiety, inability to relax, insomnia, and fear. The maximum effect is achieved by the end of 4 weeks of treatment.
