This conference has been held in Chersonese Tauride for more than years, since 2001 of the year. At the anniversary international scientific conference dedicated to the 15 anniversary of D. V. Ainalov, they accept participation of employees of the Tauric Chersonese Museum-Reserve, the State Hermitage Museum, the Institute of Philosophy and Law of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the National Center for Scientific Research (Paris, France), the Moscow State University named after M. V. Lomonosov, Higher School of Economics, State Museum of Oriental Art, Ural Federal University, Crimean Federal University named after V. I. Vernadsky, Institute of Archeology of Crimea RAS, Sevastopol State University and other academic and research institutions of Russia and the world. They gathered in Chersonese Tauride to share the latest discoveries and discuss the results of scientific research.
Director of Tauric Chersonese E. A. Morozova addressed the participants of the conference “Christianity in Archaeological and Written Sources” with a welcoming speech: “I am glad to welcome you on the territory of the museum-reserve, which for many years has been doing everything possible to preserve and revive our cultural heritage. I am infinitely grateful to the scientists and researchers who take part in this important scientific event, and I wish them interesting and productive work.”
Chairman of the Historical Club «Tauric Sevastopol» V. N. Prokopenkov at the opening of the conference made an unusual gift to the museum-reserve — the original coat of arms of Tauric Chersonesos 533 of the year. Vadim Nikolaevich thanked the specialists of the cultural institution for 15 years of fruitful cooperation, the creation of interesting programs and projects, and expressed hope to continue working together.
Director of the Institute of Archeology of the Crimea of the Russian Academy of Sciences V. V. Maiko in his welcoming speech emphasized the importance of holding a conference on church archeology in Tauric Chersonese, the place from which the spread of Christianity in Russia began. Leading researcher of the State Hermitage V. L. Myts, in turn, reminded the audience about the history of the event.
After the opening of the anniversary conference on church archeology in Tauric Chersonese, a plenary session began. The head of the scientific and archival department of the museum-reserve T. A. Prokhorova was the first to speak at it. She read a report on the life, work, contribution to science and heritage of Dmitry Vlasevich Ainalov, 160 — anniversary of whose birth is celebrated in 2022 year. Tatyana Alexandrovna spoke about the work of the scientist “Monuments of Christian Chersonese. Ruins of temples” and “Marbles of Chersonesus”. Also, the participants of the event were shown the manuscript of D. V. Ainalov, written at the beginning of the 20th century.
At the X International Scientific Conference on Church Archeology «Christianity in Archaeological and Written Sources» in the museum-reserve you will be able to hear reports on monuments and temples complexes of the Crimea, new discoveries of scientists, the peculiarities of the veneration of saints in Byzantium and in Russia, and other interesting and relevant topics. As a result of the event, a collection of articles was published. The work of the scientific conference will last until 23 September.
