Temporary exhibition «A moment between the past and the future» is presented in the Kerch Lapidarium

CrimeaPRESS reports:

In the Kerch Lapidarium — the Museum of Stone Antiquities of the East Crimean Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve, a temporary exhibition «A moment between the past and the future» is presented.

The exposition is based on the materials of the lapidary collection – monuments used by the population of the ancient Bosporus in the funeral rite at least twice.

The main idea of the exhibition is to show the complex relationship between ritual-magical and «pragmatic» actions associated with the funeral rite of the Bosporan Greeks. The Hellenes attached great importance to the performance of funeral rituals. Quite frequent finds of monuments used in the construction of graves and as cult objects indicate an ambiguous attitude towards the place of burial. Based on the materials of the exhibition, it is possible to trace the transformation of the worldview of the Bosporans in connection with the funeral rite— said the organizers of the exhibition.

Nina Kucherevskaya, head of the Lapidarium department, told the first visitors of the exhibition about the exhibits, the history of their discovery and research. Of particular interest are anthropomorphic sculptures, in the form of which a sacred meaning is laid, used in rituals and construction, as well as steles and their fragments, from which the pedestal is made, a votive relief depicting Cybele-Hecate.

visit exhibition available until October 6th.
