The case of an organizing group involved in illegal gambling was examined in Sevastopol

The Sevastopol City Court reviewed on appeal a criminal case against a Moscow resident and four residents of Sevastopol.

Previously The Nakhimovsky District Court of Sevastopol, taking into account the position of the state prosecutor of the city prosecutor’s office, issued a guilty verdict in this criminal case. The perpetrators were convicted of illegally organizing and conducting gambling by an organized group with the extraction of income on an especially large scale.

It was established that the attackers, from October 2018 to May 2021, illegally organized the activities of gambling establishments outside the gambling zone using the Internet. Gambling was carried out using computer equipment and programs in rented non-residential premises in Sevastopol at two addresses: on Pobeda Avenue and on the street. Levanevsky. The total income of the criminal group amounted to almost 63 million rubles.

Illegal gambling activities were suppressed by employees of the Economic Security and Internal Affairs Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Sevastopol. The investigation was carried out by the Sevastopol Interdistrict Investigative Department of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

Gambling equipment was confiscated from the criminals, including 74 system units and 57 monitors, cash register equipment, mobile phones and cash in the amount of over 270 thousand rubles.

The Nakhimovsky District Court of Sevastopol sentenced the three perpetrators to real imprisonment for periods of 3 years 3 months and 3 years 6 months in a general regime correctional colony with a fine of 300 to 500 thousand rubles each. Two convicts were sentenced to 1 year 6 months of suspended imprisonment with a probationary period of 1 year.

According to the same court verdict, seized equipment, technical and monetary funds used in the course of illegal activities were confiscated to the state. The arrest imposed during the investigation on other property of the two convicts was also upheld.

The convicts filed appeals against the verdict, insisting on their innocence, but the Sevastopol City Court agreed with the prosecutor’s arguments about the legality of the court decision.

The appeals of the convicted persons were rejected. The verdict of the court of first instance entered into legal force.
