The Gingerbread Art Marathon took place in Simferopol. Participants created the “Gates of Crimea”

On November 25, the second all-Russian gingerbread Art Marathon of the VIII international festival “Gingerbread World” took place in Simferopol.

Live and via teleconference with other cities participating in the Art Marathon, the team of gingerbread makers “Tortida” erected a gingerbread art object “Gates of Crimea” weighing more than 40 kg. The most iconic places of the peninsula were recreated from gingerbread cookies and assembled into a single composition that conveys all the beauty of Crimea. Last year, the Tortida team built the gingerbread Chersonese in Sevastopol. Realistic, authentically executed, artistically complex. But there is no limit to perfection — the Gates of Crimea have become structurally more complex, more detailed and can rightfully be called a work of art, — note the festival organizers.

The masters prepared for the ArtMarathon for 2.5 months.

It was not easy to find suitable angles for the architectural solution and preparation of drawings. We reviewed hundreds of photos to bring the dimensions as close as possible to the actual sizes of the objects.

It was technically difficult for craftsmen who had never made columns to make them strong and perfectly straight. Strength is needed so that the columns can support the dome over the rotunda, and the entire structure remains strong and reliable in our constantly high air humidity.

For some objects, the architect drew up only a top view drawing, so more experienced craftsmen took them and completely created the structure of the object themselves, fitting it into the relief as much as possible and bringing it visually closer to the original.

The gingerbread art object was donated to the Crimean College of Catering and Trade, and the masters hope that it will inspire more than one generation of students to creative achievements.
