The newborn intensive care unit of the Sevastopol maternity hospital No. 2 has the latest equipment

CrimeaPRESS reports:

There are ten intensive model incubators in the neonatal resuscitation and intensive care unit of maternity hospital No. 2. The equipment is necessary for nursing prematurely born babies with extremely low body weight — these are babies weighing up to one kilogram, as well as children with congenital pathologies.

After a major overhaul in the building of the maternity hospital, we opened a neonatal intensive care unit, which did not exist before, and equipped it with new modern equipment. It was purchased under an agreement between the Government of Moscow and the Government of Sevastopol. The amount is about 90 million rubles. The new equipment makes it possible to provide medical care at a different level to children who end up in intensive care , — the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the head physician of the city hospital No. 5 Elena Bolshakova.

In the incubators where the newborns are, an optimal microclimate has been created, in which the conditions similar to the womb of the mother are recreated for the children. According to doctors, the “Rule of three“ T ”applies in it: quiet, warm and dark. Among the main tasks of the devices are uniform distribution of heat, air humidification and oxygen supply during therapy.

High-tech device creates the most comfortable conditions for the stay of the baby in utero. It is covered with a special cover so that the child is in the dark, loud sounds are prohibited nearby. Of course, we cannot completely replace intrauterine development, but we try to bring it closer to the conditions in which it was in the womb , — says Vera Plashkevich, head of maternity hospital No. 2.

The department also received a mobile ultrasound machine, a gas analyzer, ventilators and a hypothermia machine for newborns — it is the only one in the city.

We have the opportunity to work freely with the help of a gas analyzer — this is a device that allows you to assess the acid-base state of the child, according to which we regulate the operation of ventilators. And if earlier we had to take blood, take it to the laboratory and wait for the result, today, thanks to this device, we don’t have such a need. Also, this device shows the level of hemoglobin, bilirubin and other basic vital laboratory indicators. Based on them, we can analyze the child’s condition in more detail and immediately decide on the amount of medical and auxiliary assistance , Vera Plashkevich emphasizes.

The hypothermia device allows minimizing situations in which resuscitation is required as a result of severe asphyxia.

Up to 1.5% of children are born with severe asphyxia. It is dangerous because the child may develop severe brain damage, such as cerebral palsy. The hypothermia device allows you to place a child in a special box for up to three days and cool to a temperature of 33, 5 degrees. This allows you to slow down all the processes that lead to the destruction of the central nervous system,” said Natalya Spiridonova, head of the intensive care unit for newborns at maternity hospital No. 2.

In total, since the beginning 1076 of the year, 1 422 child was born in Sevastopol, out of of them needed to be cared for in intensive care, including those born prematurely and with extremely low body weight.
