The patriotic event “Victory Candle” took place in Sevastopol
CrimeaPRESS reports:
On the evening of May 9, a traditional memorial event “Victory Candle” took place in Sevastopol. It is dedicated to the 79th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Sevastopol from the Nazi invaders.
Several hundred candles were lit on the square in front of Sevastopol State University; more than 50 activists and representatives of the organization “Volunteers of Victory” took part in the action.
Today we, the younger generation, remember the feat of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers. We know at what cost the Victory was achieved, and we are proud of the heroes who defended and are defending our Motherland– the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the head of the youth affairs department Marina Slonchenko.
From hundreds of lit candles, the participants of the action posted an image of the Order of the Patriotic War. It was awarded to soldiers and officers for their courage, perseverance and bravery.
Hundreds of candles today do not allow the eternal flame of memory of the feat of the Soviet soldier and the Soviet people to go out. I will always remember the feat of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers, thank you for the peaceful sky and free life without Nazism,” notes protest participant Elizaveta Glazyrina.
Also on Victory Day, a field post office operated in Sevastopol, within which anyone could write a letter to a veteran or soldier in the Northern Military District zone, a Memory Wall on which city residents posted portraits of their relatives who fought during the war, and volunteers distributed St. George’s cards in the city center ribbons and felt carnations as part of the All-Russian “Red Carnation” campaign.
