Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Crimea Sergei Sadakliev said that in preparation for the celebration of the 79th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Crimean rescuers cleaned up about 60 memorial sites.
Among the improved places, including 18, are located in hard-to-reach mountainous areas of Crimea, at high altitudes and at a considerable distance from populated areas. The start of this action was given in 2016, when, during a patrol by the Belogorsk detachment, at an altitude of 865 meters above sea level, a pile of stones, heavily overgrown with overgrowth, and a rusted sign were accidentally discovered. The inscription on the sign read: “Mount Karagol. Location of the battles of the 2nd Partisan Brigade (November 1943 — March 1944)— said Sergei Sadakliev.
With the direct participation of rescuers, the monument was restored, the surrounding area was cleaned and landscaped, the sign was replaced with a new one.
Subsequently, rescuers discovered many more places in the mountains that required attention. These are the graves of partisans, burials of local residents, partisan camps, and places of battles of partisan detachments.
Due to the specifics of their work, KRYM-SPAS rescuers are in hard-to-reach places in mountainous areas, sometimes performing search and rescue work, sometimes carrying out preventive measures. During such work, our employees often find themselves in places of deployment of partisan detachments, places where they conducted military operations, burial places of fallen soldiers and other historical places marked with memorial signs. Rescuers are aware of the importance of these activities, because in populated areas this work is carried out at a constant level, but not everyone can get to the mountains, far into the forests.
I would like to note that many guys show a keen interest in the history of their region, they themselves look up archival documents and look for burials, because many graves and monuments have been lost. Sometimes, with the support of local authorities, some memorial sites are assigned to the detachment in whose area of responsibility the monument is located,” emphasized the Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Crimea.
He also noted that employees of the State Institution of the Republic of Crimea “Fire Protection of the Republic of Crimea” also put in order more than 30 monuments in rural areas included in the departments’ area of responsibility. In addition, this year firefighters also paid attention to the graves of veterans in cemeteries that, for one reason or another, were abandoned. For example, with the help of the Rybachye State Institution of the Republic of Crimea, 10 graves of veterans located in a rural cemetery were put in order. All these places have been cleaned and painted.
For rescuers, Victory Day is truly a great holiday. No commands or orders have to be given. The guys themselves take the initiative and do big and important things, in my opinion.— said Sergei Sadakliev.
On Victory Day, employees of the Dzhankoy emergency rescue team «CRIMEA-SPAS» honored the memory of those killed at the memorial «Eternal glory to fellow villagers who died in the Second World War of 1941-1945.» in the village Chkalovo and at the “Mass grave of soldiers of the 60th Bomber Aviation Regiment, 1944” in the village Svetloye, Dzhankoy district. Rescuers laid flowers, honored the memory of the fallen heroes with a minute of silence and unfurled the Victory flag.
