The Sevastopol square near the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul was completely renovated
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The square near the Cathedral of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul has been updated — new utility networks, lighting poles, CCTV cameras, benches and trash cans have appeared here. The reconstruction project was presented at the architectural and artistic council, where it was highly praised and formed the basis for the development of documentation for the restoration of this space.
Together with architecture students, landscape architects, and students of other related fields, we developed an alternative version of the 2017-18 project as a good example of working with the historical and cultural environment, with historical heritage, including the example of Sevastopol as a southern city— the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the architect of the Institute of City Development of Sevastopol State University Ekaterina Miklyasevich.
The authors also note: the project was sent to the “Architectural Heritage” festival, where it won a prize — it was highly appreciated by members of the Union of Architects of Russia.
Here, as a paving covering, we used natural travertine stone, I would call it southern granite — it is used in the improvement of southern cities and goes well with our Inkerman stone and light, white facades. The stone has proven itself in terms of operation and year-round use; in our opinion, this is a very optimal, light solution, – emphasizes Ekaterina Miklyasevich.
She also noted that the improvement does not end there: there are already developments in the landscape, interesting year-round flowering, taking into account the shady zones of the park, developed jointly with specialists from the Nikitsky Botanical Garden.
We want it to become a green speck in our historical center. Together with “Parks and Squares” we will continue to monitor the development and life of this territory and, perhaps, propose additional adjustments — small architectural forms or landscaping, to further fill this space. We will definitely listen to the opinions of residents,” notes the architect of the Institute of City Development of Sevastopol State University.
