A fraudulent courier who fraudulently took the money of two pensioners was detained in Simferopol.

CrimeaPRESS reports:

In Simferopol, the police received a statement from an 84-year-old local resident who had become a victim of scammers. The pensioner received a call on her landline from an unknown man, reporting a terrible accident in which her son was allegedly seriously injured. To compensate for material and moral damage to the victims, the woman handed over all her savings in rubles and foreign currency to the arriving courier. Later she found out that her son was not involved in an accident. The damage caused amounted to more than 433 thousand rubles. Another victim was a 74-year-old resident of Simferopol. She handed over 170 thousand rubles to the fraudulent courier.

During operational-search activities, employees of the criminal investigation department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea, together with colleagues from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Simferopol, identified the attacker. A 53-year-old resident of the Krasnodar Territory was detained by operatives in one of the local hotels, where he had been living for the last few days. The man admitted his guilt and said that he found a part-time job as a courier on the Internet. At the direction of the “employer”, he collected funds from a specific address and transferred them to a bank account— reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.

The police seized some of the money in foreign currency from the man. He managed to exchange the rest at the bank for rubles and transfer them to the “curator’s” account.

An investigator from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Simferopol initiated criminal cases based on crimes under Part 2, Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud committed on a large scale). The detainee faces imprisonment for up to six years. The involvement of the attacker in similar crimes is established.
