Steles with information about ancient temples will appear on tourist routes in the Crimean mountains

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Volunteers of the Russian Geographical Society will install the memorial plaques.

Stone steles with information about ancient monasteries and temples will appear on tourist routes in the Crimean mountains. Data about the objects will be taken from historical and archaeological research. The project is being implemented by the local branch of the Russian Geographical Society and the Crimean Metropolis. The first stele will be installed on the site of a fortified monastery on the Ilyas-Kaya mountain range.

According to Tourist portal of Crimea, the idea of the project belongs to the chairman of the Russian Geographical Society in Crimea, Gennady Samokhin. According to him, the starting point was a visit to the village of Rodnikovoe in the Baydar Valley. There once stood a temple, described by the pre-revolutionary explorer of Crimea Vasily Kondaraki.

There was a desire to talk about the church, and in order to find additional information, I turned to the Crimean Metropolis, where they offered to compile a database of similar objects that could be turned into tourist attractions– shared Gennady Samokhin.

The first 30 objects whose names will be returned have already been identified — they are located on the South Coast and in the Bakhchisarai region. In the place where there were religious buildings or where there are remains of them, stone steles made of granite or limestone will be installed, the initiator of the project told the Crimea tourism portal Travel Crimea. Information about each of the objects will be laser engraved on the stone. To implement the plan, it will also be necessary to resolve administrative issues.

The first stela should appear on the Ilyas-Kaya mountain range, which rises above Laspinskaya Bay. There, on the top, in the 9th-13th centuries there was a fortified monastery. Next up are locations on the mountains Demerdzhi, Ayu-Dag, Ai-Petri, Basman, capes Martyan, Ai-Todor, and the cave city of Bakla. Memorial signs will be erected in several more villages of the peninsula that have disappeared from the maps.

The Russian Geographical Society is open to everyone who is ready to participate in this project, which definitely needs to be dealt with systematically from the point of view of history— said Gennady Samokhin.

Volunteers of the Russian Geographical Society will install the memorial plaques. The project will be financed by the Russian Geographical Society and the Crimean Metropolis.
