The People's Front checked the improvement of public areas in Simferopol. Conclusion?

People’s Front experts, together with the Crimean branch of the All-Russian Organization of the Disabled, checked the accessibility of the well-maintained Lenin Square and the public garden along Balaklavskaya Street in Simferopol, and also assessed the current improvement of the pedestrian zone along Franko Boulevard. Representatives of the Presidential movement and the expert community noted problems in the accessibility of public areas for people with disabilities and a formal approach to the arrangement of ramps and races. The central point of the raid was Lenin Square — the main public territory of Simferopol and the entire Crimea. The reconstruction of the area dragged on for more than six months, and although the work here has already been completed and the area is open to people, the facility itself has not yet been put into operation, so the contractor needs to eliminate the violations right now. In general, the experts noted insufficient attention to the accessibility of the area for people with disabilities and people with limited mobility.

As for the visually and hearing impaired, unfortunately, there is almost nothing on the square, not a restrictive tactile tile, in fact, some places act as traps for these people where you can get injured, there are no information signs-routers. As for the categories of citizens with limited mobility, that is, two ramps, you can use them, but it’s not very convenient — both have violations , — the press service of the Popular Front quotes the chairman of the Crimean organization of the All-Russian Society of Disabled People Sergei Poddubny.

The ramp from the side of Kirov Avenue is too wide, which makes it difficult to hold on to the handrails at the exit, and on the second one, from the side of Sevastopolskaya Street, the angle of elevation turned out to be too high. The sidewalks near the pedestrian crossing on this side of the street are not equipped with driveways either, which makes wheelchair access impossible. Some of the problems are frankly strange — for example, one of the steps turned out to be half the normal length, stepping on it is simply unsafe.

Of course, the area has changed, there are places for recreation, which pleases people. But the object is still at the stage of commissioning, which means that there is an opportunity to eliminate violations. We showed specific problems: the lack of tactile tiles, races, non-normative ramps. Representatives of the authorities and the contractor agreed with the comments and promised to deal with them, and we will keep these issues under control , — says Alla Vertinskaya, head of the regional executive committee of the Popular Front in Crimea.

Public activists asked questions about the improvement of facilities and their accessibility both in the square on Balaklavskaya Street and in Franko Square, which is being reconstructed right now. They are associated with the comfort of check-in for people with limited mobility. The city authorities promised to take these comments into account.

Today we are conducting, so to speak, public control together with people with limited mobility to identify how convenient it is for people in this category, as well as for the elderly or mothers with children, to move around in landscaped areas or relax. So, today, repair work is underway to improve the pedestrian part on Franco Boulevard. Lighting systems and small architectural forms have already been installed for the convenience of citizens. Also, irrigation will be organized at this site and in the future partial landscaping of the territory will be carried out , — said Anton Zapotochny, Deputy Chairman of the Simferopol Administration.

He clarified that irrigation systems have already been installed in the park on Balaklava. In the near future, the object will be handed over to the maintenance of municipal enterprises, which will carry out maintenance and upkeep. In addition, video surveillance systems have been installed.
