How are you feeling? On the morning of May 8, a powerful flare occurred on the Sun

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Scientists have recorded a powerful flare on the Sun, reported RIA News supervisor Solar Astronomy Laboratories IKI RAS Sergei Bogachev.

A large ejection of mass towards the Earth was recorded on the Sun on the morning of May 8. The plasma cloud was formed by a new flare of the highest magnitude (level X1), which occurred at about eight in the morning Moscow time <...> The movement of the ejection towards the Earth has currently been confirmed by observations of space coronagraphs. The preliminary arrival of solar masses to Earth is expected on Saturday, May 11— he said.

Solar flares are divided into five classes depending on the power of X-ray radiation: A, B, C, M and X.

According to the agency’s interlocutor, this release will be the largest in the current surge in solar activity.

The preliminary forecast for the strength of magnetic storms for the weekend may be G2-G3. Information will be updated within 24 hoursnotes Sergei Bogachev.

Solar flares can cause Earth magnetic storms that lead to disruptions in the operation of energy systems and affect the migration routes of birds and animals. In addition, strong storms cause disruptions to shortwave communications and navigation systems, as well as voltage surges in industrial networks.

As scientists noted, the increasing frequency of flares and the growth in their power indicates the Sun is gradually approaching its peak activity, which, according to some forecasts, may occur as early as mid-2024, and according to others, will shift to 2025.
