Remote scammers continue to steal money from gullible Sevastopol residents

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Fraudulent actions committed under the pretext of protecting a bank account continue to be registered in Sevastopol.

Often, criminals resort to various tricks aimed at stealing the savings of gullible citizens. There may be cases of using a criminal combination committed by several swindlers-accomplices. Having some information about you and using the logo of the relevant organization, as well as knowing professional terminology, criminals can call you and, posing as employees of a public services portal or employees of cellular companies, ask for an SMS code under the pretext of continuing your use of the portal or renewing a mobile service contract communication,” noted the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sevastopol.

After this, the potential victim is called by the telephone scammer’s accomplices and, posing as law enforcement officers or representatives of the security service of some institution, they talk about an attempt to steal funds in the account by the previously calling criminal using confidential data provided to him.

To “prevent theft of money,” strangers insist that all funds be transferred to the details they provide, which are called a “reserve,” “safe,” or “spare” account. If a citizen fulfills these requirements, then his savings go to accounts controlled by scammers.

In order not to lose your savings, when you receive the calls described above, you should remain calm and remember that real cellular operators never ask for a confidential code over the phone, and law enforcement officers and government officials do not demand money transfers under the pretext of preventing money from being written off. Such demands are made only by remote scammers who want to enrich themselves at your expense. In such a situation, you must immediately stop talking with the scammer, avoiding even short-term communication, and contact the police by calling 102.
