A cunning young man from Sevastopol decided to take advantage of a glitch in the marketplace payment system

An 18-year-old boy was detained by Sevastopol police for fraud with payment for goods on the marketplace.

Representatives of the online trading platform contacted the duty department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol with a message about a shortage of funds after the goods were issued to customers. As a result of operational search activities, employees of the department for combating cybercrime of the city police detained an 18-year-old young man involved in the crime.

It was previously established that the suspect often made purchases using a popular marketplace. Arriving once again at the delivery point, he received his order, but due to a problem in the system, payment was not required. The buyer did not find out the cause of the failure, but decided to use this problem for illegal enrichment— said the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In ten days, an overly savvy guy managed to order and steal about 40 goods. The criminal loot of the swindler was four smartphones and accessories for them, three music speakers, two TVs, a laptop, three air pistols, airsoft balls, clothing, perfumes and household chemicals, a gold ring, an electric scooter and other small goods.

The young man admitted his guilt in full and said that he kept part of the stolen property for himself, and managed to resell the rest and give it to friends.

A criminal case has been initiated against the detainee on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“fraud on a large scale”). Punishment? From a large fine and forced labor to 6 years in prison.
