A resident of Sevastopol decided to increase her capital and trusted the «broker». Turned out to be a scammer
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The Sevastopol police warns: remote scammers may act under the guise of brokers. One of the remote fraud schemes is just related to “earnings on the investment exchange”. Most often, the victims of such scams are citizens who have significant cash savings and are looking for a way to quickly increase them.
A 47-year-old resident of Sevastopol met a stranger on the Internet who introduced himself as a broker and offered her to invest her money profitably. Over the course of several months of communication in a popular messenger, the fraudster successfully convinced the woman to transfer her money savings to the accounts indicated by him, allegedly for investment. Yielding to his tricks and tempted by easy and quick earnings, the victim transferred a total of more than 3.2 million rubles. Currently, a criminal case has been initiated on this fact under Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation «Fraud».
The police of Sevastopol reminds citizens of the precautionary measures:
You can recognize a scammer masquerading as a broker. Such intruders are usually intrusive, calling at any time of the day, using various mobile numbers and instant messengers. Real brokerage companies use local or federal numbers, which can be easily checked on the official website.
It is worth noting that pseudo-brokers promise big profits in a very short time, despite the fact that no real broker can guarantee profit in principle, because any investment is always associated with risk. Signs of a fraudster are also refusal to give the address of the website of the brokerage company or refusal to provide information about the license. You can check whether a brokerage company has a license on the website of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.
Before transferring money to unknown accounts, be sure to check the business reputation of the brokerage company and reviews about it, you should never believe the promises of quick and big profits from strangers who call.
If you have suffered from fraud or any other crime, immediately contact the nearest territorial division of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol or report it by calling 102.
