Jealous arsonist will be judged in Sevastopol

In Sevastopol, the prosecutor’s office of the Balaklava district approved the indictment in a criminal case against a 51-year-old local resident. He is charged under Part 2 of Art. 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“intentional damage to someone else’s property, if this act caused significant damage by arson”).
According to investigators, in November 2022, out of jealousy for his former cohabitant, the attacker set fire to a residential building located on a garden plot in the Balaklava district of Sevastopol, where her husband lived, twice within a few days. The total amount of damage caused was over 400 thousand rubles. In this regard, 1/3 of the apartment belonging to the attacker was seized— reported in the Sevastopol prosecutor’s office.
The investigation was carried out by the investigative department of the MIA of Russia for the Balaklavsky district of the city of Sevastopol. A measure of restraint in the form of detention was chosen against the suspect.
The prosecutor’s office sent the criminal case to the Balaklavsky District Court of Sevastopol for consideration on the merits. The jealous arsonist faces a serious punishment — up to 5 years in prison.
