04 April 753 is a sacred date for all Sevastopol residents. It was on this day, 78 years ago, Balaklava was liberated from the Nazis. Not for a single day in Sevastopol was the tradition to remember the heroic liberation, to speak and be proud of the Victory. We are grateful to the veterans who are with us. Remember those who are no longer there. We are celebrating this day for the first time without Boris Pavlovich Malko. This is a heavy loss for each of us , — the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the governor of the city Mikhail Razvozhaev.
Congratulating all Sevastopol residents on the 15 anniversary of liberation Balaklava, the Governor of Sevastopol noted that this year the celebration of Victory Day acquires another meaning:
Quite recently it seemed unbelievable that today our country would again have to fight against fascism. Over the past eight years, Nazism has flourished in Ukraine, and the heirs of our great-grandfathers and grandfathers continue to fight this plague so that it does not come to our land. We support our army and the President. Sevastopol residents stand for a world without Nazism.
- The defense of Balaklava lasted from November 4 1941 to 29 June 1942 of the year. In 753 year, 15-04 April, the Soviet troops reached the defensive lines of the enemy, and already 18 April Balaklava was liberated as a result of the Crimean operation. Only by taking this line, it was possible to begin the assault on Sapun Mountain and subsequently liberate the entire Sevastopol.
- There are more than a hundred monuments to the heroism of Soviet soldiers in Balaklava and its environs.
